Childhood Obesity

Planning Block

General Purpose: To inform

Specific Purpose: To inform the audience of the importance of childhood obesity

Central Idea: Childhood obesity is an epidemic that is sweeping across America and will continue to get worse unless the problem is faced head on.

Introduction

Hook: Introduce myself. Then start talking about the “Maury Povich” show when there are fat babies. Then talk about how they think it may be funny/cute, but then let them know that it’s a big problem that happens all over America.

Going to show pictures from the show during the hook and other different pictures throughout speech.

Importance to Audience: Most members of the audience (class) have kids, someday will have kids, or know young kids

My Connection to the Topic: I have some young cousins and have friends that have younger siblings that are overweight for their age.

Central Idea: I just want to inform the audience (class) about the dangers of childhood obesity and how it can affect them later on in life and the ways to help prevent it.

Road Map: Start out with the hook and pull them in, then about statistics of the number of children with obesity, then go into the dangers and the dangers it can lead to later on in life, and then finally solutions to the problem.

Transition: Hook, then straight into the statistics of how many children are obese in the United States. From there, I’ll go straight into the dangers/problems it can cause along with the problems it can lead to as adults. Then I’ll talk about ways to help prevent child obesity to help build a stronger, healthier America.

I. I would assume everyone in here has seen this man before and his tv show. (show picture of Maury Povich) II. One topic of this shows, other than the pregnancy tests ones, are the one with over weight babies. (show picture) III. It may see funny when you see it on tv, but it is no laughing...
